How do I ignore exceptions when using ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem?
I have the following code. I have a few reasons that I want to be able to use the TryParse overload with no exceptions thrown. The main reason is that the code works well when the entry is a valid date, but if it is invalid, I want it to crash the application.
int.TryParse(System.DateTime.Now.ToShortDateString(), out _intDate);
int.TryParse(System.DateTime.Now.ToShortTimeString(), out _intTime);
Is there any way that I can do this?
I don't believe you can do this in a clean way. ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem (as far as I know) always throws an exception.
This exception can be ignored in a limited fashion by handling it in the Form.Load event of the Form.
One alternative is to set the Application.ThreadException property. This makes it much harder to accidentally cause an unhandled ThreadException. However, it's still not impossible.
Another alternative is to use Thread.SetApartmentState.
That is not possible, exceptions are raised when an error has been detected. If you want to implement some kind of logic, consider using regular expressions.
You can also log your errors and react to them in your code.
