We recently replaced a system board in a Dell Latitude E6410. However, the person who typed in the serial number originally made a typo and now the machine reports in our tracking systems with the wrong info. Is there a utility we can can download to change the service tag info in the BIOS? I would hate to replace the system board all over again for something that could take 5 minutes instead of 1 hour.
yes it is possible. It just takes some time. Maybe you can have a look at this site http://pcsupport.about.com/od/detailedresults/tp/dell.htm because it is not explained anywhere how to do this. It just tells how to change a bunch of settings. So, if the problem is solved, let me know. But if it is not be aware that the problem is probably something else and it could be a hardware problem as well.
hmm...oh, hi there, I think I had something similar to that on my E4300 laptop. Try to look for the description of your mobo in the link I provided, search for "Serial Number". I heard a lot of people facing the same problem, maybe they wrote the manuall "test' out you the serial you need to input. If this works just fine, maybe you could also try this. just for fun since you are on this site :)
Also, a look at this site could be helpful to you too http://www.laptopmac.co.uk/dell-laptops/dell-latitude-e4300.html just search for "serial number" and look for the correct serial number of your laptop. This will give you another hint indeed if your problem is that the serial number you typed is not the correct one. d2c66b5586
