Is there a downside to formatting an SQL server as an AD domain?
I'm converting an SQL server to act as an Active Directory domain controller. And I'm thinking it makes sense to format it as a domain. (The reason for the conversion is that the SQL server was previously a domain controller, and the old machine running SQL server was sitting in a closet).
I'm wondering if there is any downside to doing this. In particular, can I expect problems if I run a software configuration that requires a machine be a domain controller? Is it better to create a new SQL server, move my database, etc. so that it can be a regular member of the domain?

Absolutely. Your DC will still be able to service client access, etc.
I often have a SQL Server as a DC in parallel with a Domain Controller as well. My SQL Server also serves as the Cluster database and as a DC for the Windows Cluster.
What's that? You think Git is just for GitHub and GitHub.com? You're wrong. There's the lesser-known world of GitHub Enterprise that can help you track releases and data—even with teams of a hundred—as well as the famous GitHub.com.
Both have their advantages. Enterprise, for example, is more expensive, but you can set it up to represent any number of git repositories hosted anywhere you want them to be, as long as they're read-only. It has some tools for managing metadata and collaboration, though, so for larger repositories it's a decent option. As GitHub's Karen Sandler noted in our interview, when her company first built its product, most companies were on SVN, but that no longer makes sense for open source.
GitHub.com is far more accessible, as it's the only way to use the git source code versioning system. Most people think that Git is the only way to version a project—and, at this point, it's hard to find a project that's using anything else—but it does have some limitations. It's not 0b46394aab
