The group was pretty great. They didn’t have a huge following, but they were doing quite well for themselves. The Dells were a young, developing group of musicians as their music slowly evolved. It was particularly the vocals that pushed the band to the next level and that didn’t change much over time. The group started their career off on a bad note as the lead singer in the group was arrested for possession of heroin and cocaine at a local music venue.
To me, The Dells are a great reminder of just how much music changed in the decades following World War II, as they were able to reach out to listeners who didn’t even know they existed until then. Their music has been in and out of the public consciousness for almost sixty years, but I have to commend their perseverance as they were able to reach a new audience in the late 2000s.

Sadly, the group only had one hit record that I know of, “I Want To Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart,” which was popularized by Nancy Sinatra.
